Cobra Venom Factor (CVF) is a non-toxic protein purified from cobra venom. It is a structural analogue of complement component C3 and has the function of complement activation. Treatment with CVF could deplete complement protein and achieve the desired anti-complement effect through continuously activating complement component C3 for a long time. Source:Venom from the Indian cobra naja naja kaouthia purchased from certified serpentariums located in the USA.
Application | CVF binds to the victim's factor B and this is then activated by factor D forming CVF,Bb. CVF,Bb is a serine protease specific for the victim's C3 and often C5 as well. Once the complex is generated, it is extremely stable (half-life approximately 7 hours in blood). Then C3 is cleaved to C3b and C3a, C5 is cleaved to C5b and C5a. |
