Mainly expressed in lungs and leukocytes, M-ficolin refers to a nonserum ficolin identified in humans. Recent studies have shown that M-ficolin can form complexes with MASP-1 and MASP-2, and the M-ficolin-MASP complexes play important roles in complement activation.
