How to identify the extracted membrane proteins?)
When DS-PAGE running gel to identify membrane proteins, boiling treatment may lead to aggregation of membrane proteins. It is possible to incubate at room temperature for 10 min and then run the gel directly. Membrane proteins do not usually migrate at the locations where molecular weight is predicted on SDS-PAGE. They generally migrate faster (i.e., appear smaller), probably because of incomplete folding or because each molecular weight unit binds more SDS than water-soluble proteins.)
