Membrane proteins known as drug transporters are found in numerous organs. These transporters are crucial for the distribution and absorption of drugs into organic systems. As drug distribution to organs depends on a substrate's affinity for a particular transport system, membrane transporter proteins are becoming more widely acknowledged as a critical factor in drug disposition. The adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily or the solute-linked carrier (SLC) class includes a large number of drug transporters.
