The CYP2C9 gene is located on human chromosome 10q24 and encodes the CYP2C9 enzyme, a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily. CYP2C9 is a single-chain heme protein with a molecular weight of approximately 55 kDa and is mainly expressed in the liver and intestine. As an important phase I drug-metabolizing enzyme, CYP2C9 catalyzes the oxidative metabolism of approximately 15% of commonly used drugs, including anticoagulants such as warfarin, anticonvulsants such as phenytoin, hypoglycemic drugs such as tolbutamide, and various non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as diclofenac and ibuprofen. The CYP2C9 gene is highly polymorphic, and the most common reduced-function variants include CYP2C92 and CYP2C93. These variants can decrease enzyme activity and alter substrate metabolism and drug clearance to different extents. Differences in CYP2C9 activity are therefore widely studied to understand substrate recognition, catalytic function, and the effects of genetic variation on xenobiotic metabolism. CYP2C9 also serves as an important research model for investigating cytochrome P450-mediated oxidation and interindividual variability in drug metabolism.

CYP2C9 is mainly involved in the metabolism of various commonly used clinical drugs, such as warfarin, phenytoin and ibuprofen, as well as the metabolism of endogenous substances like arachidonic acid. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the concentration and efficacy of drugs in the body.
CYP2C9 exhibits significant genetic polymorphism (such as 2, 3 alleles), which can lead to reduced enzyme activity, affect drug efficacy and increase the risk of adverse reactions (such as bleeding). Therefore, it is one of the core targets for individualized medication and clinical pharmacology research.
No, all Creative Biolabs' CYP2C9 products and services are strictly for research use only and are not intended for clinical diagnosis, prevention, treatment, or cure of any disease.
