Monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) is a membrane-bound enzyme mainly located on the outer mitochondrial membrane. It is expressed in both the central nervous system and peripheral tissues, with particularly high levels in 5-hydroxytryptamine neurons and astrocytes. The main function of MAOB is to catalyze the oxidation and deamination reactions of monoamine neurotransmitters (such as dopamine and phenylethylamine) and exogenous amine substances (such as MPTP), thereby regulating the intracellular levels of these substances. In terms of pathophysiology, abnormal MAOB activity is closely related to various neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease, depression, and Alzheimer's disease. Selective inhibition of MAOB can increase the dopamine level in the brain and slow down the progression of the disease. Therefore, MAOB is considered an important drug target for treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease, and its inhibitors have been widely used in clinical practice.

MAOB is mainly located on the outer mitochondrial membrane and is responsible for catalyzing the oxidation and deamination reactions of monoamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine, thereby regulating the neurotransmitter levels in the brain. In addition, it can also metabolize exogenous substances such as MPTP, converting them into the toxic MPP⁺.
The activity of MAOB is significantly elevated in the brains of Parkinson's disease patients, and it is closely related to oxidative stress and neuronal damage. By blocking MAOB with specific inhibitors, the level of dopamine can be effectively increased and the progression of the disease can be delayed. Therefore, it has become a key target for drug development in neurodegenerative diseases.
No, all Creative Biolabs' MAOB products and services are strictly for research use only and are not intended for clinical diagnosis, prevention, treatment, or cure of any disease.
We offer a range of products, including recombinant MAOB membrane proteins, stable cell lines expressing MAOB, and high-quality recombinant MAOB antibodies, along with comprehensive custom services.
