CAR-T Therapy

During the past years, CAR-T therapy has been considered as a promising and potential therapy approach in hematological malignancies. CARs are genetically engineered fusion proteins composed of an antibody derived extracellular single-chain variable fragment (scFv) with an antigen recognition moiety and an intracellular T-cell activation domain. T-cells with CAR expression can bind to the specific antigen and kill the tumor cells in an HLA-independent manner. Several clinic trials have demonstrated that CAR-T-cell-based adoptive immunotherapy produces a long-term remission in hematological malignancies that exceeds current standard combination therapies. In addition, use of CAR T cells as a treatment for cancer has been most extensively investigated in patients with B cell malignancies, and early results have been encouraging.
