Trypanosoma

Trypanosoma is a unicellular parasitic flagellum protozoan that is a genus of Trypanosomatidae. Most trypanosomes need to complete the lifecycle in multiple required hosts. Most of them are transmitted by vectors, which are usually blood-sucking invertebrates. Different between the different Trypanosoma species, Trypanosoma is often found in the intestine in invertebrate hosts, whereas in mammals it usually resides in bloodstream or an intracellular environment. Trypanosoma are capable of infecting a variety of hosts and causing various diseases such as sleeping sickness caused by Trypanosoma brucei and Chagas disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi.
