Suspension Culture for Newcastle Disease Vaccine Production

Creative Biolabs optimizes the complete vaccine production system and provides comprehensive media development services for vaccine production. We offer formulations for cell lines that act as hosts for viral production. Count on us to help address your challenges and get your process going.

Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV)

Newcastle disease viruses are single stranded, non-segmented, negative sense RNA viruses encoding for at least six structural proteins and comprising one of three genome sizes. Clinical disease affecting the neurological, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and respiratory systems are most often observed in naïve, unvaccinated, or poorly vaccinated birds. Clinical signs vary depending on the species of bird, the strain and challenge dose of the virus, and the immunity of the host. Like all other RNA viruses, NDV is constantly evolving.

Newcastle Disease Vaccination

Newcastle disease (ND) is one of the most important viral disease infecting chicken, which causes devastating losses in both commercial and village chickens. Newcastle disease can be controlled by the use of vaccines, which are available in Creative Biolabs.

  • Live vaccines: Using strains of virus of low or moderate virulence, which mimic natural infection and induce all three immune responses.
  • Killed vaccines: The ability of the virus to infect cells has been destroyed and can invoke only a circulating antibody response.

Strains of NDV have been broadly classified into four pathotypes as follows:

  • Avirulent: Causes no disease
  • Lentogenic: Low virulence, low mortalities, loss of egg production
  • Mesogenic: Moderate virulence, mortalities up to 50 percent, loss of egg production
  • Velogenic: High virulence, severe disease with high mortalities.

Serum-Free Suspension BHK Cell Line Culture for Newcastle Disease Vaccine Production

Serum free media has been developed in Creative Biolabs to grow a specific cell type or perform a specific application in absence of serum. Our serum free media for Baby Hamster Kidney (BHK) cell line is highly specific and is ideal for production of recombinant proteins or vaccines.

Advantages

There are many advantages of serum-free suspension cell cultures over monolayer cultures.

  • It is not necessary to trypsinize cells in suspension culture, thereby reducing the possibility of deleterious effects on both the cells and on infectious agents.
  • BHK cells cultivated in shaker cultures do not clump readily. Sampling, therefore, becomes simplified and more reproducible.
  • Less medium is used to produce the same number of cells.
  • Reducing the chance of microbial contamination.
  • Low cost: low serum, no micro-carriers, low labor cost.
  • Easy to operate with high stability: reducing the burden of downstream purification process.
  • High antigen content: completely meet the requirements for the semi-finished product of the antigen.
  • Suitable for large-scale production.

Features

  • Full suspension for seed batches, expansion and manufacturing;
  • Serum-free culture;
  • Exclusive BHK suspension cell line;
  • Exclusive serum-free suspension media;
  • Suitable for a variety of vaccine strains such as LaSota strain and genotype VII.
