Diabetes Mellitus Vaccines

Creative Biolabs, which has been assisting customers in developing vaccines for more than a decade, continues to expand its business framework based on its accumulated successful experience. Today, we not only have a leading position in the development of infectious disease vaccines, but also expand our expertise to cancer vaccines, vaccines for neurodegenerative diseases, and diabetes vaccines.

Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus, also known as diabetes, has become an important public health disease. It is a metabolic disease characterized by high blood sugar. The body of a patient with diabetes cannot produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin produced by the body, thus developing a series of symptoms associated with hyperglycemia.

Diabetes mainly has the following types:

  • Type 1 diabetes: This is an autoimmune disease in which approximately 10% of diabetic patients fall into this category, and the insulin-producing pancreatic cells of these patients are attacked and destroyed by their own immune system. However, the cause of the attack that caused this autoimmune is still inconclusive.
  • Type 2 diabetes: This type of diabetes occurs because the patient's body is resistant to insulin, which causes sugar to accumulate in the blood.
  • Prediabetes: This type is that the blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes, but in this case, if no treatment is taken, the condition will develop into type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
  • Gestational diabetes: Gestational diabetes during pregnancy does not mean diabetes before or after pregnancy, but gestational diabetes does increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the future. Moreover, improper management can increase the risk of diabetes in children and increase the risk of complications for pregnant women and children during pregnancy and childbirth.

Vaccines for Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes - Creative Biolabs

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is due to the innate presence of antibodies that antagonize islet beta cells, resulting in the inability of the body to produce enough insulin or to produce insulin at all. For type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease, Creative Biolabs offers a variety of vaccine developing services regarding antigen-specific vaccines, altered peptides ligand (APL) vaccines. In contrast to T1DM, patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) often have unaffected early insulin secretion or even more secreted, but the body cells are not sensitive to insulin signaling, or that insulin secretion is declined at late stage due to long-term hyperglycemia. This phenomenon is called insulin resistance, which prevents blood sugar from being transported into cells for timely oxidation and energy supply. The inflammatory response is thought to be closely related to the development of type 2 diabetes. Therefore, blocking the key pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1β is considered to be a potential strategy for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes. The results of the studies on animals also show the effectiveness and feasibility of this strategy. Creative Biolabs can provide development services for various types of vaccines based on IL-1β.
