Publication
This publication investigates the cancer chemopreventive potential of Claoxylon longifolium, a plant used in southern Thai traditional medicine and cuisine. A bioassay-guided approach was used to isolate and identify phytochemicals from the leaves and stems of the plant. The study found that only one of the isolated compounds, vicenin 1, was a potent chemopreventive agent as it increased luciferase activity by 2.3-fold. The research also included in silico studies on related compounds, which suggested their potential as cancer chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic agents. This study is the first to report on the chemopreventive properties of C. longifolium. It concludes that while in silico predictions are useful, they are not always 100% accurate, and in vitro and in vivo studies are still necessary.
