Marinosomes

The vesicular system has been a brilliant lipid-based drug delivery system which has concentrated considerably attention in the development of new drug delivery systems. As a recognized biological company, Creative Biolabs has constructed a perfect and universal liposome development platform to better serve global scientific researchers. We are pleased to offer high-quality marinosomes products and related services to our customers throughout the world.

What are Marinosomes?

Marinosomes, a special type of liposomes, are usually a natural marine organism lipid extract. As a marine lipid-based liposome preparation, marinosomes are extensively applied for the prevention and the treatment of skin diseases which have been already approved for commercial use. Different to other liposomes, marinosomes contain a highly polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFAs) ratio, including two subgroups omega-6 and omega-3 (mainly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)), which are metabolized and stored in cell membrane phospholipids. Marinosomes are unable to be formed and present in normal skin epidermis but can be metabolized by the skin epidermal enzyme into bioactive metabolites, of which show anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative effects to skin disorders.

Why and How Do Marinosomes Work as a Drug Delivery System?

Marinosomes drug delivery system actually is a kind of vesicular system, of which general structure is spherical phospholipid vesicles mainly consisting of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine. Therefore, the actual delivery mechanism is identical to liposomes.

Marine lipid-based vesicular structures with an aqueous core surrounded by a hydrophobic lipid bilayer membrane enable marinosomes to carry both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs, by which hydrophobic compounds are inserted into the bilayer membrane while hydrophilic compounds are entrapped in the aqueous center. Moreover, the large hydrophilic core and biocompatible lipid layer allow marinosomes to deliver some macromolecules like proteins and DNA.

Marinosomes deliver drugs to a certain site of action by the fusion lipid bilayer to other lipid membrane structure such as the cell membrane, then releasing the contents. Marinosomes are potential to be developed as a targeted drug delivery system widely applied for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutritional supplements, etc.

Features of Marinosomes System

As a novel drug delivery system, marinosomes are considered to be a formulation different from traditional preparations with many properties and superiorities. Here, we introduce several as follows:

  • Lipid derived from marine organisms
  • Natural PUFAs are healthier with no toxicity
  • Encapsulation structure reducing the early inactivation, degradation and dilution of drugs, also toxicity to non-acting sites
  • Better stability, biocompatibility, non-immunogenicity, and targeting
