Liposomes are sphere-shaped vesicles composed of one or more phospholipid bilayers, which can accommodate hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecules in the cavity or the bilayer respectively. Their unique structure could effectively improve physicochemical properties of the encapsulated drugs such as solubility, stability, and toxicity. After decades of research since the 1960s, liposomes are now attracting extensive attention worldwide in the past few years as potential pharmaceutical carriers, and have been used for the delivery of toxic/insoluble molecules, nucleic acids, proteins, and vaccines. The biggest advantage liposomes have over other carriers is that they can be highly functionalized. In addition to the high biocompatibility and sustained release properties, the lipid composition, particle charge, diameter, and surface modification (PEG, antibody, aptamer, fluorescent tag, etc.) of liposomes can be adjusted as needed. More recently, many new liposome-based drugs have been developed from clinically approved products to new experimental applications, the major areas include gene therapy, cancer therapy, and mRNA vaccines.

Featured Services of LipoDrive™ Platform

Custom Lipid Synthesis Service

Common lipids used to form nanocarriers are amphiphilic molecules with a hydrophilic head group and hydrophobic fatty acid tails. Different molecular structures and chemical groups can lead to different properties and functions of the carriers. LipoDrive™ custom lipid synthesis service helps to make headgroup/tail functionalized lipids completely according to your needs. Various analytical methods are also provided to ensure the quality of our products.

Preformed Liposome

Creative Biolabs has formulated a series of preformed liposome products for the convenience of your research. You can place the order directly and the liposomes will be prepared and shipped in days. Existing products include clodronate liposome, fluorescent liposome, liposomal doxorubicin, Immunoliposome, and control liposome (PEGylated or Non-PEGylated, for membrane biology research).

Functional Liposome Development Service

Liposomes can be used for specific applications through appropriate surface functionalization and modification technology, such as prolonging circulation time, specific targeting, imaging, and controlled drug release. Besides, changes in lipid composition and liposome structures can also lead to different properties and functions (surface charge, phase-transition temperature, sustained release, etc.) Fill in the service specification form and our experienced liposome expert team will feedback a tailored scheme according to your requirements.

Liposomal Formulation Development Service

As a promising nanocarrier that can encapsulate both hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecules, liposomes are widely used in the development of novel therapeutic agents. LipoDrive™ liposome formulation development service provides fully custom-made liposomes that encapsulate small molecules, proteins, prodrugs, nucleic acids, and adjuvants. Our liposome scientists will adjust the lipid composition according to the loadings to ensure the best quality and stability of our products. Additionally, buffers and liposome states are also customizable.

Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) Development Service

Lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology is a new hotspot for the delivery of nucleic acid materials and has been used in the development of mRNA vaccines. LNPs are typically composed of four kinds of lipids: PEG lipid, cationic lipid, structural lipid, and cholesterol. The microfluidic technology of the LipoDirve™ platform enables the volume production of LNPs with high encapsulation efficiency and homogeneity. Similarly, we have developed several mature LNP formulas, they are also highly customizable to meet different requirements.

Liposome Analysis and Characterization Service

It is necessary to monitor the physical and chemical parameters of liposomes to ensure that the prepared liposomes have good reproducibility and desired functions. The LipoDrive™ A&C service of Creative Biolabs provides various tests on liposome structures and functions. Basic characterization includes diameter, zeta potential, and polymer dispersity index (PDI), cryo-TEM can get a better view of liposome lamellarity and internal structure. Lipid bilayer analysis includes ³¹P nuclear magnetic resonance (³¹P NMR), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The functional test includes drug encapsulation efficiency (EE) and in vitro release (IVR), as well as liposomal formulation stability monitoring.
