Being the largest family of human transfer protein genes, the ABC transporter subfamily can be divided into seven subfamilies, namely ABCA, ABCB, ABCC, ABCD, ABCE, ABCF, and ABCG. Most of these ABC proteins are membrane-bound proteins transporter proteins responsible for the traffick of many biomolecules. Among them, ABCA10 gene is highly expressed in the gastrointestinal tract and is closely related to macrophages lipid homeostasis. ABCA10 plays a crucial role in the maintenance of homeostasis in vivo. Unfortunately, the exact mechanism of this process remains unclear.
Recent studies have focused on the relationship between ABCA10 and cancer to evaluate the potential value of ABCA10 gene in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of cancers. A newly published study confirmed that ABCA10 is closely related to immune-related pathways, including B cell, CD8+ T cell, CD4+ T cell, Macrophage, neutrophil, and DC activation. The expression level of ABCA10 in vivo is closely related to the pathological stage of breast cancer patients.
As shown in Fig.1, the expression of ABCA10 is downregulated in different subgroups of breast cancer and extremely relevant to pathological stage in BRCA patients. The expression level of ABCA10 is negatively correlated with the survival of BRCA patients. Hence, ABCA10 may be an effective target for the treatment and prognosis evaluation of breast cancer.
