APC Analysis Services

The APC (adenomatous polyposis coli) protein mainly play roles in regulating cell cycle and differentiation. Defective APC genes cause abnormal cell proliferation, which can lead to cancer. Creative Biolabs has launched a series of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) biomarker development and analysis services of human diseases. Here, we introduce the APC as biomarker for cancer diagnosis research.

APC Function

APC is a multifunctional protein that most prominent among its many functions is its ability to regulate β-Catenin-mediated gene transcription in response to Wnt signaling. Studies have also shown that APC plays an important role in several basic cellular processes, including regulation of epithelial cell migration and morphogenesis, as well as aspects of actin and microtubule skeleton. The loss of APC leads to dysregulation of beta-catenin resulting in an increase of β-catenin in the nucleus, which in turn activates the Wnt pathway, which is closely associated with tumor formation.

APC Mutation

APC is pro-apoptotic when overexpressed in cancer cells, and anti-apoptotic when mutated. Several studies have reported germline mutations of the APC gene in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) as well as somatic mutations in tumors developed in digestive organs (stomach, pancreas, and colon).

APC Hypermethylation in Disease

APC has been found to develop hypermethylation in a variety of diseases, especially in many types of cancers, below are the rates of methylation in several representative cancers.

Gastric cancer

Gastric cancer

60 ~ 83.6%

The incidence of APC hypermethylation in gastric cancer patients ranged from 60 to 83.6%.

Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer

11.9% ~ 62%

The methylation rate of APC promoter in colorectal cancer mucosa ranged from 11.9% to 62%.

Liver Cancer

Liver Cancer

64.91 - 84%

In approximately 64.91-84% of liver cancer patients, the APC promoter exhibits hypermethylation.

Pancreatic Cancer

Liver Cancer

58.6%~71%

APC promoter hypermethylation was detected in 58.6% to 71% of pancreatic cancer patients.

Services Provided by Creative Biolabs

APC protein is an important cancer-related protein in Wnt signaling channel, and the expression level affects the process of cell growth, cell division and differentiation and so forth. The cell-based functional study of APC includes its complex protein and mutation site can further elucidate its pathogenic mechanism.
