Scientific Validity
AKAP13 is a 2817 aa anchoring protein containing multiple domains but only the region 1-2190 aa on AKAP13 modulates mTORC1 activity. AKAP13 is abundantly expressed in HCC but not in normal adult liver. Over expression of AKAP13 protein in HCC cell lines promotes cell proliferation and triggers high levels of downstream ERK and cyclin D1. Studies revealed that the PKA/AKAP13/RhoA signaling pathway plays an important role in carcinogenesis and tumor development. Reports indicated the relationship between AKAP13 mutation and prostatic cancer.
