Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a human gammaherpesvirus, can cause lymphocyte-proliferative diseases in immune-deficient people and is also etiologically associated with Burkitt's lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, other B- and T-cell lymphomas, anaplastic nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and a small fraction of gastric carcinomas.
