Natural killer (NK) cells are considered a promising tool for adoptive immunotherapy due to their capacity to spontaneously kill tumor cells without prior sensitization. However, due to the low expansion rate, exhausted phenotype and scale expansion issues, it is challenging to transfer the bench-top expansion protocols to clinically applicable methods for NK cell-based therapy.
At Creative Biolabs, we have developed several novel NK expansion technologies for large-scale NK cell expansion processes. Our NK cell expansion platform enables the expansion of NK cells from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and CB (cord blood). These expanded cells demonstrated increased persistence, proliferation, and function and were ready for preclinical and clinical applications.
Expansion of NK cells for clinical use requires a large cell dose and requires appropriate activity and modification to have better anti-tumor function. There are many validated protocols for the expansion of NK cells ex vivo, all of which have specific characteristics and functions. At Creative Biolabs, we provide a comprehensive overview of starting materials and culture conditions, the key cytokines, feeder cells, and culture additives to develop viable NK expansion strategies to meet the needs of customers. Currently, we provide the following strategies to obtain the appropriate amount of functional NK cells:

NK cells can be expanded from human PBMC or isolated NK cells. Our defined NK medium enables a high expansion rate, leading to long-term in vivo persistence and enhanced effector functions of the NK cell population. Generally, our NK cell expansion process can be divided into the following steps:
