Natural killer (NK) cells have broad prospects in tumor immunotherapy due to their unique biological functions and characteristics. The introduction of chimeric antigen receptors into NK cells has been the main practical method to target NK cells to specific surface antigens so far. In contrast, T cell receptors (TCR) can recognize all cellular proteins and can provide a large number of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL).

Advantages of NK cells and TCR guided natural killer cells (TCR-NK)

NK cells are the most effective cancer killer in the human body, and they can exert their effector functions without pre-stimulation. They are also not expected to express the cytokines that cause the cytokine release syndrome. Another important feature is that NK cells from one donor can be safely administered to other patients without causing graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). This provides the possibility of mass production of non-personalized cell therapy products, which can be produced in advance and can be provided on demand in an "off-the-shelf" manner.
