The GEM18-TCR recognized free mycolic acid (MA) and glycerol (Gro-MM), as well as glucose (GMM) to a lesser extent, but did not respond to trehalose (TMM). It has demonstrated that the promiscuity of GEM18-TCR toward mycolate head group moieties. This suggests that meromycolate chain structure might be an antigenic determinant for GEM18-TCR activity.
