Given its important role in cancer progression and development, activated leucocyte CAM (ALCAM) has drawn significant scientific interest over the past years. ALCAM has significant potential as a fluid-based biomarker because the shed ectodomain of ALCAM is released into adjacent biofluids. Background

ALCAM is a 105 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the immunoglobulin super family (IgSF). Soluble ALCAM in body fluids is produced through proteolytic cleavage by ADAM17 and MMP14. The major function of ALCAM includes mediating immune cell adhesion and migration and promoting T cell activation and proliferation.

Diagnostic Powder

ALCAM has been increasingly used as a biomarker for the diagnosis, treatment response, and survival prediction in various cancers. ALCAM was validated and identified as a novel alternate surface marker on EpCAMlow CTCs. In type 2 diabetic nephropathy, serum ALCAM level and ALCAM expression in the glomeruli were significantly increased. Besides, urinary ALCAM is also a promising non-invasive biomarker for renal histopathology in Lupus nephritis (LN). Figure 2 demonstrates the available information on ALCAM protein concentrations in the pan-cancer cohort.
