The three-reagent kit for staining amyloid that features the use of an alkaline solution as the differentiation medium to avoid undesirable non-specific staining of cellular material. Amyloid deposits appear green under polarized light.

The Congo Red Hyman kit was used to stain amyloid (amorphous clusters). Amyloid deposits are typically red stained, but under polarized light they show birefringence and result in green metachromatic staining.
