Short Decsription
Five-reagent kit for staining argentophilic particles. The Grimelius kit can be used to detect carcinoid-specific secretory intracytoplasmic granules and to identify neuroendocrine cells.
Description
The Grimelius kit is used in histology to visualize argyrophilic structures in histological tissue sections. Certain tissues, such as neuroendocrine tumors, can bind to silver ions in silver nitrate solutions, but cannot reduce them to a visible form - elemental silver; this is why silver ions are reduced during staining by exposing sections to reducing Hydroquinone solution and sodium sulfite to achieve. Rinse the sections with sodium thiosulfate solution to remove excess unbound silver ions.
Applications
