The NCI-H596 cell line was derived by A.F. Gazdar and H. Oie in 1983 from a tumor mass in the chest wall of a patient with adenosquamous carcinoma of the lung. The specimen was obtained prior to therapy.

In Vivo Tumorigenesis Assay

Tumorigenicity is defined the property of a cell to form tumors when inoculated into an immunosuppressed animal model. Generally, test cells and tumor cells as positive control are administered subcutaneously into immunosuppressed nude mice. The number of animals developing tumors are compared with a positive control reference cell line.
