Description
Adiponectin (AdipoQ) is a hormone secreted by adipocytes and one of the most abundant adipokines in circulation. It modulates metabolism by enhancing insulin sensitivity and exhibiting anti-inflammatory effects. While its role in reproduction is not fully understood, AdipoQ expression has been detected in reproductive tissues of various species, including the human placenta. AdipoQ exerts effects via AdipoR1, primarily in skeletal muscle, and AdipoR2, predominantly in the liver. It may also influence cell growth, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling by binding to and sequestering growth factors.
