Target Cell Name
PC3
Target Cell Organism
Human
Target Cell Background
PC3 (PC-3) is a human prostate cancer cell line used in prostate cancer research and drug development. PC3 cells are useful in investigating biochemical changes in advanced prostate cancer cells and in assessing their response to chemotherapeutic agents. PC3 cells are also used to study viral infection in mammalian cells that exhibit an immune response.

Oncology
Assay Name
In Vitro Real-time Monitoring of Cell Migration Assay
Short Description
PC3-cell based In Vitro Real-time Monitoring of Cell Migration Assay
Assay Description
Real-time monitoring assays have permitted more easy and reliable ways for the detection of cancer cell invasion and migration (real-time monitoring).
Assay Type
Cell Migration and Invasion Assays
Assay Type Details
The movement of cancer cells and formation of tumors in neighboring tissue is a sequential cascade known as invasion-metastatic cascade, which includes cancer cell invasion through extracellular matrix (ECM), intravasation into blood and colonization at sites after they exit from blood circulation. Migration and invasion are two different processes where, cell migration involves movement of cells without passing through a barrier such as ECM, whereas cell invasion involves passing through a barrier such as ECM while destroying it.
