Background
Dual labeling of cells using Luciferase and Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) is a powerful approach for studying cellular dynamics and interactions. In this method, cells are genetically engineered to express both the luciferase enzyme and the GFP marker, allowing for simultaneous bioluminescent and fluorescent imaging.
Luciferase emits light upon reacting with its substrate, luciferin, providing a highly sensitive measure of gene expression and cellular activity. Meanwhile, GFP, which fluoresces upon exposure to UV or blue light, enables visualization of cellular structures and localization in live cells. This combination of techniques allows researchers to monitor processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and migration with both spatial and temporal resolution.
