Assay Type: Cell Viability/Cytotoxicity and Antiproliferative Assays
Assay Overview
This assay is to provide U-251-based In Vitro PI Assay (Cell Viability) to accelerate our client's oncology projects. The assay will be customized according to the specific requirements. Please contact our scientists to discuss more details.
Target Cell Name
U-251
Target Cell Organism
Human
Target Cell Background
The U-251 cell line was established at the Wallenberg laboratory, Uppsala, Sweden, almost more than 40 years ago along with several other cell lines derived from human gliomas, and was derived from a male patient with malignant astrocytoma.
Related Diseases
Glioblastoma
Research Area
Oncology
Assay Name
In Vitro PI Assay (Cell Viability)
Short Description
U-251-cell based In Vitro PI Assay (Cell Viability)
Assay Description
Propidium iodide (PI) is another dye that can be used to distinguish viable and non-viable cells. PI can only bind with DNA of cells with damaged cell membranes and it cannot enter viable cells. Uptake of PI into cells can be monitored by flow cytometry (FCM) or fluorescence microscopy.
Assay Alternative Names
Propidium Iodide Assay
Assay Type
Cell Viability/Cytotoxicity and Antiproliferative Assays
Assay Type Details
Uncontrolled proliferation is one of the main features of cancer cells. Cell-based in vitro assays are employed to determine whether test molecules possess direct cytotoxic/antiproliferative effects in cancer cells.
Assay Subtype
Cell Viability Assay
Assay MOA
