Assay Name
In Vitro MTT Assay (Cell Viability)
Short Description
U87 MG-cell based In Vitro MTT Assay (Cell Viability)
Assay Description
The MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay is one of most commonly used assays for cancer drug screening. This assay has been very popular among cancer researchers as an initial assay in drug discovery. NAD(P)H-dependent oxidoreductase or dehydrogenases in viable cells can reduce MTT into purple-colored formazan, which can then be solubilized for spectrophotometric analysis.
Cell Viability/Cytotoxicity and Antiproliferative Assays
Assay Type Details
Uncontrolled proliferation is one of the main features of cancer cells. Cell-based in vitro assays are employed to determine whether test molecules possess direct cytotoxic/antiproliferative effects in cancer cells.
Assay Subtype
Cell Viability Assay
Assay MOA
Cell-based Viability Assays Based on Cellular Enzymes and Proteins
