Description
Human B cells can be isolated from cord blood, which is the blood that remains in the umbilical cord and placenta after a baby is born. Cord blood is a rich source of hematopoietic stem cells, which have the ability to differentiate into different types of blood cells, including B cells.
Background
B cells, also known as B lymphocytes, are a type of white blood cell of the lymphocyte subtype. These white blood cells produce antibodies, which play a key part in immunity. Each B cell contains a single round nucleus. They function in the humoral immunity component of the adaptive immune system.
