Description
Glucagon, a peptide hormone consisting of 29 amino acids, is secreted by pancreatic alpha cells and stimulates hepatic glucose production, increasing plasma glucose levels. It is a counter-regulatory hormone to insulin, playing a critical role in glucose homeostasis by regulating glucose metabolism in both peripheral tissues and the brain. Glucagon is also involved in reducing food intake by decreasing meal size after eating.
