Description
IBA1 (AIF1) is a 143 amino acid cytoplasmic protein involved in inflammation. Constitutively expressed in monocytes and macrophages, it plays a role in macrophage activation and serves as a marker for activated macrophages and microglial cells. Aberrant expression is linked to autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. It enhances actin-binding, RAC activation, lymphocyte migration, phagocytosis, vascular inflammation, and smooth muscle cell and T-lymphocyte proliferation.
