Short Decsription
Six -reagent kit for dyeing elastic fibers with extended incubation periods. Used to differentiate between elastic tissue, collagen, and other types of connective tissue.
Description
The Weigert-Van Gieson kit is used to stain elastin, connective tissue, and collagen. Elastin fibers consist of elastin polymers and elastic microfibrils that form 3D networks in the extracellular matrix within connective tissues (skin, elastic cartilage, blood vessel walls, lung tissue, and vocal cords). Unlike standard histological staining, Weigert van Gieson's reagent (called resorcinol-fuchsin dye) shows selective differentiation of tissue samples, even in the early stages of disease.
