Description
CytoFinal™ Colorimetric Alanine Transaminase (ALT) Assay Kit provides a reliable enzymatic method for quantifying ALT activity in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, and cultured cells. The assay is based on the catalytic conversion of alanine and α-ketoglutarate into pyruvate and glutamate, followed by colorimetric detection of the generated product using a microplate reader.
Features
Sensitive colorimetric detection enables accurate quantification of ALT activity across a broad linear dynamic range.
Microplate-compatible format supports high-throughput analysis with standard spectrophotometric plate readers.
Versatile sample compatibility including serum, plasma, tissue lysates, and cultured cell supernatants.
Optimized reagents and protocol ensure reproducible enzyme activity measurement with minimal experimental variability.
Process Relevance
Monitors alanine transaminase activity to evaluate hepatocellular damage and metabolic enzyme function.
Application Stage
Drug discovery, toxicity evaluation, metabolic research, and liver injury assessme

Background
Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), also known as glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (GPT), catalyzes the reversible transfer of an amino group from alanine to α-ketoglutarate, generating pyruvate and glutamate. Because ALT is predominantly expressed in hepatocytes, elevated enzyme activity in biological samples often reflects liver injury, metabolic disturbance, or cellular damage.
Pathways
ALT plays a critical role in the alanine cycle, linking amino acid metabolism with carbohydrate metabolism. Through the production of pyruvate, ALT contributes to gluconeogenesis and integrates with the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, thereby maintaining cellular energy and nitrogen balance.
