Description
CD56+ NK cells are a subset of natural killer (NK) cells that express the cell surface marker CD56. This cells mean that 85% of the NK cells express the CD56 protein on their surface. These CD56+ NK cells play a critical role in the immune response by recognizing and killing infected cells or tumor cells. They are part of the innate immune system and can respond rapidly to threats in the body. CD56+ NK cells are also important in regulating the immune response by producing cytokines and chemokines that can recruit other immune cells to the site of infection or inflammation.
Background
Natural killer (NK) cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes that function at the interface of innate and adaptive immunity. They are important effector lymphocytes of the innate immune system that play protective roles against both infectious pathogens and cancer. NK cells are also regulatory cells engaged in reciprocal interactions with dendritic cells, macrophages, T cells and endothelial cells.
