Description
Splenocytes are white blood cells found in the spleen, a vital organ of the immune system. New Zealand White rabbits are a common breed used in research labs for their docile nature and ease of handling. Splentocytes from New Zealand White rabbits are often used in immunology research to study immune responses and cell-mediated immunity.

The New Zealand White Rabbit is arguably the most widely-used outbred rabbit strain in biomedical research. They are commonly used in many fields of research, including dermatology, toxicology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular studies, and antibody production.
Background
A splenocyte can be any one of the different white blood cell types as long as it is situated in the spleen or purified from splenic tissue. Splenocytes consist of a variety of cell populations such as T and B lymphocytes, dendritic cells and macrophages, which have different immune functions.

Quality Control
Cultures are screened for the presence of bacteries, yeast, fungi and mycoplasma (DNA amplification). Growth media are also certified based on U.S. Public Health Service Guidelines.
Storage
Lyophilized cells should be stored in a liquid nitrogen tank (-150°C~-190°C). After thawing, cells should be immediately transferred to the appropriate culture medium and maintained under recommended culture conditions.
Handling Notes
Frozen cells should be thawed immediately upon receipt and grown according to handling procedure to ensure cell viability and proper assay performance.
Note: Do not freeze the cells upon receipt as it may result in irreversible damage to the cell line.
