Introduction
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a double stranded DNA virus, a species of the genus Orthohepadnavirus, and a member of the Hepadnaviridae family of viruses. The genome of this species consists of a double-stranded circular DNA possessing 3.2 Kb. In addition to causing hepatitis, infection with HBV can lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
