UGT8 knockout A549 cell line lacks UGT8 protein, UDP-glycosyltransferase, crucial for galactocerebroside biosynthesis in myelin sheath. UGT8 knockout in A549 cells allows investigation of galactocerebroside biosynthesis disruption - while primarily myelin-related, may reveal novel roles for UGT8 or galactocerebrosides in lung cancer cell biology beyond nervous system function.
