This research investigates the long-term effects of diverse fertilization strategies on the intricate world of soil microorganisms and their associated enzymatic functions. Figure 1 graphically illustrates the maximum reaction rates (Vmax) for these tracked enzymes across various soil treatments. The experiment included soil treated with sewage sludge at standard (SF) and triple (SF3x) application rates, manure (MF), and inorganic NPK fertilizers, all compared against an unfertilized control (CF). The results showed that the activity of β-N-acetylglucosaminidase (NAG) was consistently reduced in all fertilized plots relative to the control, with the most pronounced reductions observed in soils receiving either the standard or triple doses of sewage sludge. This visual representation effectively distinguishes the statistical differences in enzymatic performance among the different fertilization approaches, as indicated by distinct lettering signifying statistically significant variations. The figure provides a compelling insight into how different nutrient sources and their application rates can differentially impact specific enzymatic processes crucial for soil health.
