Monosaccharides contain between 3-8 carbon atoms, the most common having 5 or 6, exhibiting hydroxyl (-OH) groups in different positions and spatial arrangements. They are the simplest form of carbohydrate and cannot be further hydrolyzed to smaller subunits, so they are sometimes referred to as simple sugars. Monosaccharides are signified by the suffix -ose. Further classification utilizes the number of carbon atoms and the functional carbonyl group. A monosaccharide containing an aldehyde group is therefore called an aldose; those which contain a ketone group are ketoses. Sugars with 3 carbon atoms are termed triose (an aldotriose or ketotriose). Sugars with 4, 5, or 6 carbon atoms are called tetroses, pentoses or hexoses, respectively.

The importance of monosaccharides in chemical biology has been well appreciated. At the same time, much attention has been paid to the development of new biomedical applications for both monosaccharides and their derivatives. Creative Biolabs has organized a staff of outstanding scientists who have engaged in the synthesis of carbohydrates for many years. We are committed to providing high-quality monosaccharides, and we also offer custom monosaccharide synthesis service by multi-step chemical or enzymatic methods, from a few micrograms to tons scale.
