New amylases are groundbreaking Glycosyl Functional Enzymes engineered to redefine starch processing across industries. Unlike traditional amylases, this next-generation biocatalyst combines hyperthermostability, broad pH tolerance, and exceptional substrate specificity to efficiently break down starch into fermentable sugars, dextrins, or malto-oligosaccharides. Developed through advanced directed evolution and structural biology, the new amylase excels in extreme conditions, reducing energy costs and enhancing process efficiency. Their applications span biofuel production, food processing, textiles, and pharmaceuticals, offering a sustainable, high-performance alternative to conventional enzymes.

We initiate the process by carefully selecting a thermostable amylase gene tailored to your specific application requirements. This gene is then cloned into a custom-designed microbial vector optimized for high-yield expression in E. coli or P. pastoris. The vector incorporates strong promoters, optimized ribosome-binding sites (RBS), and secretion signals to ensure robust enzyme production and efficient secretion into the culture medium, enhancing downstream recovery.
High-purity starch or starch derivatives are solubilized under carefully controlled conditions to maintain new amylase stability, including pH, temperature, and ionic strength optimization. Co-substrates, such as calcium ions and reaction buffers, are fine-tuned via high-throughput screening to maximize enzyme efficiency and minimize unwanted side reactions. This step ensures optimal substrate availability for enzymatic hydrolysis.
Host cells are rendered competent using chemical treatment or electroporation, followed by transformation with the engineered vector. Antibiotic resistance markers are employed to select successfully transformed cells. High-expressing clones are identified through enzymatic assays or fluorescence-activated cell sorting for GFP-tagged constructs, ensuring a robust production strain.
Selected clones are cultured in optimized media under controlled conditions. At the optimal growth phase, a chemical inducer triggers amylase production. The culture is then transferred to a fed-batch bioreactor, where temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and agitation are dynamically adjusted to maximize enzyme yield and specific activity.
Purified new amylase is added to the bioreactor containing pre-treated starch substrates. Reaction conditions are continuously monitored and adjusted via automated feedback control systems to ensure complete starch hydrolysis into target sugars with minimal inhibition or degradation.
For pharmaceutical-grade applications, further purification is achieved via ion-exchange chromatography (IEX) or crystallization, depending on the desired purity level. The final product is formulated, lyophilized, and quality-tested before release.

Learn How Our Services Boost Talent Development
New amylases play a pivotal role in second-generation biofuel production by converting corn starch or lignocellulosic biomass into fermentable sugars like glucose and maltose. These sugars serve as feedstock for ethanol or butanol fermentation by yeast or bacteria. Their thermostability enables high-temperature hydrolysis, reducing cooling costs and microbial contamination risks during large-scale bioreactor operations.
In the food industry, new amylases are widely used to produce high-fructose corn syrup, maltose syrups, and dextrins, key ingredients in soft drinks, confectionery, and brewing. Their controlled hydrolysis capability allows precise adjustment of sugar profiles, ensuring optimal sweetness and mouthfeel. In baking, it improves dough handling by breaking down starch into dextrins, enhancing crumb softness and shelf life.
New amylases are biodegradable alternatives to harsh chemical desizing agents in textile processing. They efficiently break down starch-based sizes used in yarn and fabric weaving, facilitating complete removal before dyeing. This reduces water consumption compared to traditional alkaline desizing and minimizes effluent pollution.
In pharmaceuticals, new amylases enable green synthesis of cyclodextrins, cyclic oligosaccharides used as drug carriers to improve solubility, stability, and bioavailability of hydrophobic APIs. Their high substrate specificity ensures minimal byproducts, simplifying purification.
New amylases accelerate anaerobic digestion in biogas plants by degrading starch-rich organic waste into simple sugars, which are readily converted to methane by microorganisms. Their thermophilic activity enhances enzymatic hydrolysis rates, reducing retention time in digesters.
Cost Saving
