Immobilized papain (agarose resin) enables cleavage of immunoglobulin G (IgG) molecules near the hinge region of antibodies by immobilizing a cysteine protease obtained from papaya latex on agarose resin. This reagent provides a highly efficient method for the production of Fab and Fc fragments that avoids autolysis and protease contamination and eliminates the need for post-digestion removal of the papain. At 25°C and pH 6.2, one unit can hydrolyze 1 µmol of BAEE per minute.
Immobilized papain (agarose resin) is widely used in chemistry and immunology. It is a very convenient reagent mainly used for protein hydrolysis and generation of Fab and Fc fragments from IgG without the need to remove papain after digestion.
