With an accumulation of knowledge and expertise in preclinical safety assessment, Creative Biolabs has become an incontestable global leader in the IND-enabling market and is dedicated to offering a full range of toxicology services for our global customers. Based on our state-of-the-art experiment platform, now we can provide both standard and specialized phototoxicity service for our customers all over the world.

Importance of Phototoxicity Assessment

Phototoxicity, also known as photo irritation, is defined as a toxic response from a substance applied to the body which is either elicited or increased (apparent at lower dose levels) after subsequent exposure to light, or that is induced by skin irradiation after systemic administration of a substance. Light-induced toxicity is a common phenomenon in humans. Importantly, diverse organic chemicals have the ability to induce phototoxicity, which is probably from the common possession of UV-absorbing benzene or heterocyclic rings in their molecular structures. Furthermore, studies have suggested that both topically applied and systemically administered drugs have the potential to induce photosensitivity. Therefore, it is essential to ensure the photo safety of chemicals in the investigation of new drugs.

Phototoxicity Assessment Service Provided by Creative Biolabs

With a wealth of experience, our professional scientists can design specialized exposure conditions and customed light source configurations for our customer's phototoxicity service. Their expertise in evaluating phototoxic responses enables us to offer various test methods range from in vitro to in vivo assays to assess the potential phototoxicity of test articles. Moreover, we are capable of utilizing a number of different light sources, including visible light, xenon arc solar simulators, and fluorescent ultraviolet radiation sources to help our customer better understand the characteristic of drug candidates. The services we can provide include:

  • In vitro models
    • 3T3 Neutral Red Uptake Phototoxicity (NRU) test
    • Photo Ames assay
    • Melanin Binding assay
    • 3D epidermis model
    • Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) Photosafety assay
  • In vivo models
    • Photoirritation assay
    • Photosensitization assay
    • Photosensitization assay
