| Target/Description | MTH1 is an enzyme crucial for maintaining genomic integrity by eradicating oxidized purine nucleoside triphosphates, such as 8-oxo-dGTP, 8-oxo-dATP, 2-hydroxy-dATP, and 2-hydroxy rATP. By converting these damaged nucleotides into monophosphates, MTH1 helps prevent the incorporation of mutagenic bases during DNA replication and transcription. The presence of misincorporated oxidized nucleoside triphosphates can potentially lead to the formation of mutations associated with conditions like cancer or neurodegeneration. |
