Target/DescriptionNADPH, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, is a crucial coenzyme found in all living cells, serving primarily as a vital reducing agent. It acts as an electron donor in numerous anabolic (biosynthetic) reactions, such as the synthesis of fatty acids, cholesterol, and nucleic acids, providing the necessary reducing power to build complex molecules. Beyond biosynthesis, NADPH plays a critical role in cellular defense mechanisms, particularly in protecting against oxidative stress by regenerating important antioxidants like glutathione.
